Grainger Park Boys Club was formed way back in 1928 and was the first boys club in Newcastle to be affiliated to the National Association of Boys Clubs. Originally located in a small room of the Toc H. Hostel on Grainger Park Road. Due to the clubs popularity bigger premises were required so the club then moved to a meeting room in an old church in Beech Grove Road. This still proved to be too small so then it was off to larger premises attached to the old Police Station on Scotswood Road.
In 1933 an old public house, The Vulcan, came up for auction and with help from a Mr H B Saint, the National Council of Social Services and Lord Ravenswoth, a bid by Grainger Park was accepted. Sadly a compulsory purchase order for the building was raised in 1973.
Negotiations by the Trustees and Management Committee led to the acquisition of part of the Scotswood Rd Baths. This however was not a popular move and although the club operated from here for 24 years it proved difficult to recreate the atmosphere of togetherness.
The current clubhouse on Denton Road was built in 1997 and is home to both the boxing and football sections.
In recent years a new and more positive feeling has crept into Grainger Park following the re-introduction of football and other activities. Membership is again on the increase and the future is once again looking bright.
In 2007/08 we had 11 football teams ranging from under 9's up to the Senior Team.
